"06 XK8 Tape back won't play or reject tape
Broken drive belt, tape wrapped around the capstan, dead motor?
If it won't eject, you'll have to remove the unit & dismantle it to find out what's wrong, unless you can very gently prise the tape casing out. It may well do the same thing to the next tape you try, though, without further investigation...

Thanks for response. Had car out yesterday afternoon and tried the eject button again and much to my surprise the tape came out. I had hoped to have a working tape player but I think I will just leave it alone. Thanks again for your suggestion.
I fired up mine recently for the first time in at least 17 years and was somewhat surprised that it worked fine.
Them valves (tubes?) sound so much better than this modern solid state stuff
I still play my 1970s /1980s cassette tapes on my trusty Onkyo tape deck (which is now 40 years old and part of my huge music room home audio system). But I would never risk trying to play my tapes in any ancient car stereo system. Too much chance of damaging or ruining them....

I cheated. I made a copy from vinyl on my trusty vintage Technics deck to try out first...
Sorry for the OT, QC. I have a PhD in rambling.

^^ Smart move. Some of my tapes are irreplaceable so I treat them with kid gloves. While I allow my wife to play my CDs on the very rare occasions when she wants to, nobody touches my vinyl LPs and cassette tapes but me. That has been my rule for more than 50 years....
