Unhappy #18 Fuse in Trunk for Audio Keeps Blowing 2001 XK8 Convertible

Hi Everyone,

New owner here! My wife and I are no strangers to English cars as we have 2 Range Rovers, however this is our first Jaguar. We bought a 2001 Jaguar XK8 Convertible with 48Kmi in like new condition. The only thing that did not work when I bought the car was the audio system. I replaced the number 9 fuse on the passenger (right) side of the car, and now the head unit turns on, however there is still NO SOUND.
I found that the 30A Fuse in the trunk has blown, and that it is also associated with the audio system. I tried to put in a new fuse, and it blew instantly. Does anyone out there have experience with this? Please let me know!

I've done a search to see if someone else had this issue, but have not had any success. If such a thread does exist please let me know!

Thanks!

Welcome and congrats on the new car!

The #18 fuse in the trunk is for the premium sound power amp. The amp is located above the CD player and nav unit, behind the right carpet wall in the trunk. The 2 bolts on either side of the equipment chassis will release the audio equipment stack for access. You can usually find used ones on ebay such as: Jaguar XK8 Factory Audio Amplifier ID LNF4170AA 00 01 02 03 04 A397 | eBay. Make sure to get one from a 2000 or later car.

Thanks for the response. So, you believe it is a faulty amp that is causing the short? Would I be able to verify this by simply unplugging the amp? I did see it earlier. I also do have the Alpine system in my car. Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks!

Yes, if you unplug the amp and the fuse no longer blows then it is a really good bet the amp is bad. If the fuse still blows, its time to look for a wiring short.

Thanks for the information! I did unplug the unit and there was no short, so it must be the amplifier. I've ordered another one on eBay and hopefully the problem is fixed!
