Default 1990's XK8/XKR

Hello all
I would like to say hello and touch base with anyone who still has one of these.
Mine is a 99 XKR Coupe and I will never get rid. They are classics now thanks to the late Geoff Lawson
Lot of maintenance over the 10 years, timing chains, bushes etc,
Spent a lot
Hopefully we can share experiences and advice.
I am fortunate enough to have the original Nikasil 4.0 survived. Make sure to use Super Unleaded
Replaced the rubbish exhaust with a 3 muffler stainless.
Plastic interior bits very hard to get
Headlining starting to sag in places (clear twist pins have done a quick fix)
Cheers
Steve

Welcome. I agree that these XKs are quite beautiful. I see plenty on the road. Coupes though are less plentiful and quite a treat to see. I was on my way down the Hollywood freeway and followed one down to Anaheim.

Default Sounds like a beautifully maintained car

Smitty,

Welcome. I’ve a 99MY too but a convertible. Had it for 2 years now for a DIY garage shade tree mechanic. I’ve enjoyed wrenching on it too.

Somewhere in the distant past a AJ-27 Engine was dropped in. I too put in a modified stainless steel exhaust for a more enjoyable engine note.

If if you have time, it’s always interesting to see and hear other Forum members woes and successes. Some great easy DIY improvements, like the dead foot rest mod, radio antenna switch, etc.

Hope to see you around the forum.

I have a very early 97 built in 96 coupe. Mine also still sports the nikasil lined block. (I have a spare steel lined just in case lol 😁. They are beautiful and flowing with no real "hard lines" anywhere on the body. However I have noticed that part of the rear is slightly reminiscent of a Ford Taurus, and the one guy at work told me it looks like a Miata 😒😒😒😒 it could use a decent complete respray, but that's unfortunately going to leave to wait.

Hi Steve,

I have an early 1997 coupe, delivered to the previous owner in October 1996. I fell in love with the XK8 the first time I saw it in '97 and I finally bought mine last year
from the first owner who kept it in immaculate mechanical and aesthetic condition. Me being mechanically inept it took me a while to find one that didn't need any
work and came with a book of service and maintenance records. Mine also has the original Nikasil engine and has had the tensioners and timing chains replaced.
I have replaced the exhaust system with a Mina exhaust system that gives it a really nice sound. Even at 22 years old it's still a real head turner as it's the only XK8
in town and people are surprised when I tell them how old it is. I'll keep it until I go in my box replacing or repairing things as need be. To Timeisrelative, if one of the
guys at work told me it looked like a Miata I'd send them home until they had a note from the doctor saying that they've had their eyes checked.

Yeah when I told my daughter what he said she just gave me a stupid look and said "uh no! It doesn't look anything like a Miata!" Lol 😁
