1997 XK8, light smoke from center of cowl vent, TPS and ABS failure, please help!
I had a strange situation with my XK8. Everything worked perfectly until I detected an electrical burning smell coming into the cabin on a drive home. I was pulling into the garage and all the sudden the check engine light came on and it said engine fault and ABS failure. The engine fault was TPS failure which can also trigger ABS failure I believe. I opened the hood while the car was still running and I could see light smoke and a burning electrical smell coming from the cowl vent behind the firewall. It did not seem to be coming from the loom running along the firewall but further back.
I took the cowl off and shined a light back there as well as the wiring loom behind the engine and nothing was burned or melted. I'm at a loss here, I have a backup throttle body but the smoke makes me think the TB/TPS sensor itself isn't the problem. Anyone have a similar experience or know of any wiring running through the firewall that could affect the TPS? I might just run it again to pinpoint the smoke source but I hate to risk further damage and would really rather not take the entire engine wiring loom out and remove the dash. Thank you for any help!
