Hi my name is Andy I bought a 1997 jaguar xk8 when I apply the brake I have no brake lights and my car also will not **** out of park I pulled the brake switch out and the micro switch appears to be working fine I still need to test it on a ohm meter but I tried to use copper wire to jump the connections and the brake lights still did not come on and the car was running any thoughts.

 

Hi Andy,
You need to do a little more testing with a voltmeter. Check for B+ (12V) on the white/orange wire of the brake switch connector (ignition on). If it's missing, then trace the wire back: it ultimately goes to the ignition switch. If you have 12V, then with the brake pedal pressed, you should have 12V on the blue/slate wire.

Do those two checks and report back what you find.
