Default 1997 XK8 Transmission fill plug

Can someone tell me the location and size of the transmission fill plug on a 1997 XK8. I was told it a 8mm but only found a 5mm plug. Don't want to remove the wrong plug.
Thanks

Right side near the back. You may need to use a piece of pipe on the hex key. It's easier if the transmission is warm, but don't remove the plug unless you have drained the sump or the engine is running to avoid a bath.

The other side of this argument is that you don't drain the sump unless you know the fill plug is not stuck...

that is why im loosening the fill first. disaster if you drain first then strip your fill plug.

Just a note to everyone out there...
Changed the tranny fluid and it drives like a dream.. Cant even feel the shifts now. Worth doing for sure.

Many have talked about changing the transmission fluid which is a real good idea. I found that rather than using a combination of tools to get the fill plug out, it works real well to buy a piece of 1/8" X 1" of strap iron (use a foot long piece) and an 8 mm allen wrench. Cut a piece off, about 7/8") the end of the wrench, drill a whole in the end of the strap iron and weld the piece in the whole. This enables you to get the fill plug out with minimal chance of striping it and putting it back in with burning yourself. This is the same as the tool Jaguar has in there shop and costs less than $5 to make and very well work it.

Good Luck

Bob
