Hi I have a 1998 XK8 and i have had some weird things happen to it. Really it started when i purchased the car a couple years ago and has gotten worse.
I think it may have something to do with a faulty security system. The little red light on the gearshift goes red occasionally and i cant get the car out of gear. There is a manual override but it is a pain to continually have to use it. There have been a few occasions when the headlights go on and off and i cant start the car. It may be that the car thinks its being stolen? This probably is not associated but my windshield wipers seem to have a life of their own, sometimes they operate on thier own and stutter up and down the windshield, sometimes they just go on and after a few wipes, they stop. Any ideas?

 

My first thought is to check the wire harnesses in the steering column. They get bent/flexed every time the column goes in/out and up/down. All the light/wiper/PATS coil wires are in there.
