Default 1998 XK8 wont fire

Thought it was starter motor but can fire up by jumping starter motor. All electrics are working as normal, including keys/immobiliser
Good battery, but no click on the key. Apparently could be control module?
Anyone got any ideas?
Thankyou

Hi,
how are you doing this - starter feed to solenoid at the starter, or bridging starter relay?

Very confusing post ..are you saying you can get it to run if you direct connect the starter motor ? If so its not igniton or fuel but a starter problem or it feed to the solenoild.

Put an ohmmeter across the big power module fuses against the back wall of the trunk. (Disconnect the battery first.) Perhaps one of the fuses is blown.

Truckgraphics....The engine would not crank if these were blown...you would be better with a voltmeter across the fuse and leave the battery ..If fuse good no volts, if blown 12v

OK, so you're going to have to get the multimeter out and do some basic checks.

In the meantime, grab a copy of the 1998 Electrical Guide from member Gus' site of everything here:

http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto.../jagxk1998.pdf

Remove the starter relay and confirm that you have B+ (~12V) on the White/Pink (WK) and Brown/White (NW) wires to the relay socket (pins 1 & 3, ignition on).

Check the voltage on the Green/Orange (GO) wire to pin 2 of the relay. It should be B+ with the ignition turned to position ii (ignition on), and drop to 0V when the key is turned to position iii (start).

Make those initial checks and report back.

Not positive about all the exact symptoms when it trips, but also double check the inertia switch. It is meant to turn (some) things off in case of a collision. It can sometimes trip unexpectedly, and it costs $0 to check and reset.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Firstly many thanks for all of your suggestions to date.
Just a correction from my initial post,

There is no spark, engine wont crank, and its not the starter motor as we have tried both - starter feed to solenoid at the starter, and bridging starter relay?
Currently awaiting an auto electrician.
Thanks

Ah - in that case, definitely check the inertia switch (passenger side fascia fusebox) as fmertz suggested if you haven't already.

May be key not recognised (P1260 code) - something amiss with the start sequence if you're missing both crank and spark. Have you tried a different key?
