Question 1999 XK8 Throttle Body

My dealer has diagnosed a defective throttle body on our XK8. Is there any place that sells original parts for less than $2100-2400? Does anyone have any experience with british parts place on e-Bay? Because of the high cost of this part, I am considering replacing the engine and transmission with a Chevrolet 350 engine and trans. I appreciate any help/advice you can provide.

There are many good used parts in the salvage yards that will get your car going again for several hundred dollars. Any AJ27 throttle will work on your car from a 1999 to 2003 XJ8 or 1999 to 2002 XK8.

ASI can rebuild virtually anything electronic, including your throttle body. Not many places can do that AND give you a great warranty.

I've found their service to be great. I sent them an email one Sunday night very late, and they answered my email in a few minutes. WOW!

Cool 1999 Jaguar XK8 Throttle Body

We purchased a rebuilt throttle body from ASI and installed it today. The engine now gallops and the car will n ot even move. This has been a disaster so far. What have we done wrong?

There's not a lot to go wrong except for missing one of the harness connections to the TB or getting a leak off one of the coolant hoses. Gus has given you the link to his install guide in post 3 above. Use this to check right through the TB install again.

The battery should be disconnected when replacing the TB. The ECM (Engine Control Module) then sets a default engine mapping and 'learns' the new TB as you drive.

Especially make sure the four electrical harness connectors to the TB have all been reconnected properly.

Thanks. I think that the shop tried to reprogram the new unit. I gather from what is being said that no programming is necessary. Am I understanding this correctly?

Disconnecting the battery before removing the old TB and reconnecting after the replacement is fitted forces the ECM into default mode. No need for any programming. It will adapt to the new TB over time.

If you missed this step, disconnecting and reconnecting the battery will have the same effect. Not too sure, but I think it may need to be left off for a few minutes to lose anything stored in memory.

Not sure what gallops means but if it means it's running too fast, you might have a bad vacuum leak. You might check with the rebuilder to see if there is any reason to send it back to them to be looked at.

We now havw a different issue. After the throttle body was installed, we ran the car for a week without any issues. Now, it heats up very quickly; it seems to build up pressure in the cooling systerm to the point that coolant is forced out of the system. Also, the engine now idles very rough, almost like a cylinder is not firing.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is this related to the throttle body?

Heats up quickly + excess pressure in cooling system suggests sticking thermostat.

Investigate immediately - the V8 doesn't take well to overheating.

+1 My Thermostat Failed Abruptly. Radiator Cooling Fan Ran at High Speed at Engine Shutdown. Replaced Thermostat, all is well. In my case the (Infamous) Engine Temp Gauge DID NOT show High Temp.

Default throttle body electrical connector will not come off.

I have a question. I have looked all over this form for direction, I am taking my intake manifold off to replace gaskets as I have lean bank codes.. at the same time I want to clean intake and change heater hoses, thermostat, water pump and housing.. question is I can not for the life of me get the throttle body electrical connector off. I do not want to break it as it is already starting to crack. does any one have a diagram on where to press or squeeze to get this connector off. I have posted a picture. The connector with the arrow on the left. 1999 xk8 conv. 4.0 , thanks in advance.

Press the tab on the connector and remove (pull) the plug at the same time. I should mention that they will break off. All of my TB plugs are fastened and secured by the use of wire ties. Good Luck!

I do not see a tab. there are notches on the top, but no tab. I am sure I am going to break this thing as it has cracked in the back and blue wire connectors are starting to show. I am still trying to find a exact picture on the net some where of how to take this off. scheduled time for this today and this is holding me up . thanks for the quick replay Gus.
