Hey All,
I have the optional 20" wheel package (not by choice, previous owner selected) I have noticed the grey is flaking off in may spots. Underneath there appears to be a semi-gloss black finish. I think my Black XKR would look quite nice with black centers and silver trim rings.

How hared is this to accomplish? Can I simply remove the silver somehow? Will it need to be clear-coated???

To do it right the wheel should be disassembled, stripped, and painted or powder coated. It looks like the wheel may have been refinished at one time.

 

+1 ...... and three piece split rim alloys are difficult to disassemble.

I had the same 20 inch Sepangs on my 2005 4.2-S XK8. A beautiful looking wheel but very harsh ride compared with the 18 inch on my previous 2001 XK8 or the 19 inch on my current XK.

The surface coat failure on the outside could be warning of more serious issues. I'd recommend taking the wheels of and thoroughly cleaning/checking the inside of the rim.

Best to thoroughly assess you wheels before throwing money at them. It could get very expensive if they need more than surface rectification.
