Default 200 Amp Alternator Revisited

Well I will be putting in my 200 amp alternator tomorrow. Just came in today. I will give some impressions but I am sure they will be wonderful as my alternator took a major crap so to speak.

Question I have is what is the best way for removal. Looking at it it seems either remove airbox and try from there OR from underneath. Also I have heard strange stories about disconnecting battery. Can I disconnect elswhere that still keeps battery power to the car? Such as a point where the alternator power lead can be removed?

Any help would be appreciated. If all seems well in a few weeks I will post where I sourced the alternator from. I just dont want to reccomend an unknown to you all. It was a 200 amp and cost 210 shipped to NYC from california

Thanks!

Damon

Default Battery

I disconnect my battery a lot with no issues but you can get a cigarette lighter socket battery keeper that will power the electronics with the battery disconnected. They are pretty cheap. I have one but have never felt the need to use it.

Here is what I am talking about on Amazon:

Well the alternator is installed and all is well in XKR world. I have a few other issues I need to take care of but for now this is done. All I had to do was remove air box and IC pump and bracket. Piece of cake. Did about 100 miles so far. Disconnected battery also no issues there. Will update in a week or so with supplier info if this seem sto hold up:O)
