2000 xk8 misfires and resticted performance
HELP,i have a 2000 xk8 with 50,000 miles, drove find to work, shut down and restarted within 15 minutes, had rough idle and restricted performance light,NO RATTLES, have been to two shops and they just want to start replacing parts, any ideas on what it could be. i did scan it and came back with cyl. misfires on four cyl., and 1ST had a code of inst (temp)or ecm failure, but that cleared out any help

Mine did exact same thing (2000 XK8 @ 55k miles). 1st time Jag dealership said only code showing was mass air flow sensor. That shouldn't cause problem but was the only thing he could find. That didn't fix it. Read on forums it was most likely brake light switch. I ordered that part and replaced it myself, which was a job! That didn't fix it. Took it back to Jag. They said it needed a new wiring harness and throttle body. After a total of around $3,500, its fixed. I recently read a post here titled ALERT concerning this. That might be helpful. Good luck!!

Bushels full of apples and oranges. A brake light switch failure will not affect engine performance, and a throttle body TPS failure which will is not going to generate four missfire codes.
Kjanelle, if all four codes are from one bank of the engine, I would suspect that a secondary timing chain has jumped a tooth. You both need a mechanic who is capable of inspecting your engine and diagnosing the fault before replacing anything.
