Default 2000 XKR Brake Question - HELP Identify?

Greetings,

I purchased my first Jag last year (car officially labeled as a year 2000 - badge / label says manufactured 04/99) and am finally getting around to doing some work on it that it needs. I've been scouring the threads here on the forum and trying to download manuals and parts catalogs to find my own answers... but I could still use a little help identifying what brakes are on this car?

I'm going to try and upload some pics I took of them in hopes that will help identify what I have. I called the dealerships here in Dallas / Ft Worth and they said they couldn't get into Jaguar's records to tell me what came on the car... but they could sell me new rotors and brake pads for a little over $3k for all four wheels...

I want to replace all 4 rotors (Centric? Brembo? Others?), clean up / rework calipers as needed, plus new brake pads (Akebono ceramics?), and get the parts purchased and change them out. I'm thinking of replacing the wheel bearings since I'm in there already and there's about 115k miles on the chassis. Any other things I should look for / replace / or check?

I would appreciate any help or guidance in this effort!

PS I am planning to change out all shocks w/new Bilsteins, new spring dampeners, bushings, etc. as well, but that should prolly be another thread.

Am I seeing things or is that inside pad actually fitted the wrong way round with the metal back plate against the disk and the friction material against the caliper piston?

I think that's the spring clip that you are seeing as friction material.

It's hard to not notice if you've ever done that during a "too many beers" moment. It makes a decidedly unpleasant sound.

These look like the standard single piston brakes fitted to the XK8 and XKR. 325 mm front, 305 mm rear.

I did this job right after I bought my '02 XKR, about a year ago.. As pointed out, you have the stock basic ATE brakes, If you want to just rebuild as needed, and replace the worn out rotors and pads, then the job is pretty strait forward. But It helps to have the factory manual. It's available for download free here on the forum. The factory shop manual is great starting place to learn more about your car.
I would advise you to get these stock brakes restored and working properly before considering a braking upgrade to Brembo's etc.You may decide the stock brakes are OK for your type of driving. I put a lot of miles on my car, and with the addition of the ebc redstuff pads, I'm satisfied with the stock brakes. YMMV. If you decide to upgrade, it won't be hard to sell your newly restored stock brake here on the forum.

There are many opinions as to the best brake pads for street use. I spent several years working in a classic car restoration shop and that afforded me the opportunity to check out disc brake pads and rotors from several manufacturers. I ended up with definite preference for the ebc redstuff pads for street and occasional spirited driving. just my opinion., do some reading on the subject here on the X100 forum and you'll find there are 2 or 3 pads that are frequently mentioned. any of those will be an improvement over the OEM pads.
