Default 2001 XK8 Cam Sensor Troubleshooting Help.

Hello,

New to the forum and needing help. I have a 2001 XK8, 82,000 miles that my mechanics cannot seem to figure out. It was driving on the freeway without issue. I stopped the engine for 5 minutes to get coffee. When I restarted it, the car seemed to hesitate when I accelerated. It sounds like it was not getting gas. I tried to go up a hill and the engine quit I was in a hilly area). I restarted it and it still hesitated upon acceleration. The car went about 20 feet up the hill and died again. I had it towed to my mechanic, who explained that two of cylinders were not firing and he thought it may be a bad cam sensor. Well they have been testing it for the last three days. They indicate there are no "P" codes that are being generated from their testing. So it sounds like they are guessing as to the root cause/solution. What should I be looking for to narrow down the problem?

Thanks in advance,

Would two cylinders not firing be enough to make it quit going uphill? Sounds like a fuel related problem at first glance. I'm surprised there are no codes at all. Do you have one of those elm 327 thingies? Thinking of getting one myself:

http://www.carpartslights.com/elm327...-327-p-28.html

Can even get a program for your iPhone/Droid/etc. to read the codes it throws. Wish I could be more help, sorry.
