2001 XK8 Crank but no start - Solution
Hello,
I am dropping this here to maybe help someone else that might have this issue.
I had new keys made for my jag. The locksmith that cut the keys could not get them programmed. I had a different locksmith get the keys programmed but it would crank but not start. Took it to a mechanic that specializes in European cars. I already knew that the ECM wasn't allowing spark or fuel into the cylinders. I also told him that I just didn't have time to work on it and that was why I was looking to have a mechanic fix it. He wanted to replace every module from the same donor vehicle. He also got offensive when I made a suggestion. I had to have a locksmith verify the key worked because cranking wasn't enough proof that the chip/transponder combo worked. I gave up on them and had it towed back home. So his fee, 2 tows, and a locksmith and nothing was accomplished.
I knew that the BPM enabled crank and the ECM controlled fuel and spark. Either I had a bad wire which was highly doubtful since it worked before the new keys or the programming was dumped somewhere. I ended up ordering the one cable I would need. I verified the wires were good as I waited for the cable to come in. It took me longer to get the virtual machine and drivers to work than it took to program the immobilizer. 30 minutes was all it took and the mechanic spent weeks to accomplish nothing. So if you have crank or spark but not the other after getting new keys, it might just be that the immobilizer isn't running correctly.
I searched these forums for solutions and this was never listed. That is why I am sharing it. Maybe it will help someone else that is in a similar situation.
