2001 XKR front shock install
My 2001 XKR is making banging noises eminating from the front shocks (I think). This noise has always been related to worn shocks on my previous cars. How difficult is the replacement of the front shocks on the XKR? DOes it require a spring compressor tool?
Is this a DIY job--I see replacement shocks on Ebay for ~$150 each. I'm sure the dealer would take my right arm to replace.
Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

Gary, you do not give alot of info on your car, but you have stated it is XKR.
Chances are you have a CATS system which are electronically control shocks, that is a different beast altogether.
Cost and parts more expensive and different #'s.
Check to see if you have wires coming from the shock tower under the hood just above where the tires are(where you expect the shocks would be). If there are no wires coming out of shock tower (small round black caps) you do not have the CATS system then you are good to go and can go with bilstein shocks or whatever you like, but if there are wires coming out of small black caps you do have CATS system, then you need to study about the CATS system.
The parts and cost much different, the install would be reasonably the same other than the wire connectors .
You need to know this info before buying anything.
You really should take a moment and place your car information, so if you need help people can give you the correct info based on YOUR car.
Good luck and

Thanks--my bad--You are correct that I have the CATS on my car. I will take a look at the wishbone bushings as a first diagnosis. I watched the videos by Rev Sam and the process does not seem too complicated at least for the non-CATS shocks. Guess its just the parts are the big difference--looks like the removal and install are the same.
My car is a 2001 XKR convertible, 65K miles. Sea Foam green painted special at factory since it was not offered that year. I have replaced hydraulic lines for convertible mechanism and preventively did a secondary chain tensioner fix as well as a leaking water pump.
thanks for the advice
