The coolant sensor works as a magnetic donut float, on a stick, in the expansion tank reservoir. There's a common problem, where you've drained the coolant, and the donut float is dirty and stuck to the bottom of the stick. Possible Quick fix - stick a magnetic pencil thingy into the back/bottom of the coolant reservoir and try to release the float.
BTW are you sure you have a good battery charge, as this low voltage causes all sorts of funny errant warning messages?
Thanks for the info david I didn't know about that and haven't seen anything in the tank as such so will try it. Battery is good and is on a conditioner. Light wasnt on before.
I had the same problem after changing the coolant. It takes a long time to get all the air out of the system even after you squeeze the hoses. I finally solved the problem by disconnecting and bypassing the low coolant light from the expansion tank. It was either that or replace the expansion tank which includes the senson. I'm much happier now not seeing that light come on when I know the radiator is full!
Sorted. After David's reply I had a look at the part then as soon as I got to the car I could see it. I must have pulled it out when moved the tank to do the cam covers. Replaced and no light. Many thanks for the help to you all
