Default 2002 Jaguar XK8 Navigation system

I have a Jaguar XK8 and I want to install a navigation system, I know nothing about what is available and would prefer a touch screen.

Could someone let me know what options I have.

Thanks

Paul

With the amount of questions on the Navigation System I would like to see someone take it and run. A repair or replacement should be available the car is not that old. I will help and get you started!

Not sure this will help but thought I would send it to you. The links are for Alpine system that fits the 2005 xk & xj. I do not recall the time but updates were $200.00 and to be honest I am not sure of the accuracy of this info so you may need to contact them and verify that it will work. http://www.navteq.com/about/index.html http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT...-NavteqNorthAm

I have been on a web page that the guy installed a navigation system that was not factory and I am not able to find it yet, but I will continue to look. I was not totally impressed with it, it was a surface mount. My input of installing an aftermarket unit is limited because I never did so I am shooting from the hip. Finding a spot would be imperative because I would not want it to look like an aftermarket unit. That means cutting to install and I would not cut until 1 – I had a unit to fit the opening and 2- I was sure and then only if I had a way to go back like the original part. After the install and installing power (and this is important) I would leave the USB cable connected and tucked away to the unit to enable updates to be installed from a laptop. You do not want to pull it apart to update or change regions. As to what unit, that is your choice they are all about the same just a few bells and whistles.

Hope this gives you a little direction!

Not sure about a touch screen Paul, but I find my 'remote control' system using the existing screen works really well. Mutes the audio, voice thru the speakers, etc. (I know mine shows an aftermarket deck, but 99.9% sure you can do the same with your alpine deck, premium system w/ amp.) You do have the factory nav in your xk8 right, not just the three gauges? you didn't say.

gus, you're second link didnt work.

Default Navigation DVD

Regarding navigation DVD updates, I saw this post, several months old, on a regional page of the forum:

"....I just replaced my 2003 version with a 2009 version downloaded via torrents. you need a dual layer dvd to burn it to. It worked great, took about 5 minutes to do some kind of update, and... .voila.. "

Does anyone know what this refers to? Torrents is a download engine, right? What was downloaded and what was the source of the navigation software?

I thought that 2005 or 2006 was the latest and last naviation update that Navteq did for the Alpine system in 97-2006 XK8s.

Using a "torrent" finder, I came across a download for Denso nav DVD, but I believe our systems are Alpine.
