Default 2003 XK8 Auto Head lights not working after mirror install

Today I finally got my rear view mirror back on the jag. Mine has the Compass and dimming mirror. Well all that is working but the auto headlights turn on and off is not working. The eye is not blocked after putting on the mirror. I made sure the connections clicked together then I put the mirror back on. I put the head light switch on auto, but nothing. Mirror/eye for this function has been off got a while. Is there anything I need to reset or is something just broke? I can live without them just thought they would have worked as we seem too recall they did before the mirror fell off months ago.

It should just be a simple plug-in. It's not like the window limit switch reset after a battery disconnect.

1. did you try plugging the broken mirror back in and covering the sensor with a piece of tape to simulate darkness?

2. absolutely sure you were given the correct replacement? There's a P/N change at VIN A36136.

For the rear view mirror with compass display:
to VIN A36135 : C2N2254
from VIN A36136 : C2P1823

correct replacement what? I put all my orig stuff back on the window.
It worked this morning. Was in the dark garage and it kicked on by itself. Stayed on all the way to work, most other cars still had the lights on also and did not kick on at lunch. is the way to adjust how soon they might kick on and off?? There were times this morning at 8:15 the sun was plenty bright and a few times the sun was right on the window and they stayed on.

I assumed you were replacing a mirror, not refitting the original.

The early ones have a rotary knob on the back to adjust sensitivity.

This adjuster was soon dropped and there is no adjustment on later designs.

I just reused my orig mirror. It has came off the window. I cleaned off the tint around the base that had pulled away. Reattached the metal ring to the window, gave it an hour to set then put the mirror back on no issues. Better than paying for a NEW WINDOW with the round metal bracket attached to it which is the only way you can do it the RIGHT way.

Auto lights handlights are working fine now and even the rain sensor is working though not as sensitive as I would like to see it but oh well, won't us it anyways.
