Default 2003 XK8 Fuel Filter Change

Hi

I'm thinking I should probably change the fuel filter and have been looking for a how to post or video, however I have been unsuccessful. Have any of you guys seen/found instruction for this filter change?

I took a look and feel under the car, my filter feels like it has quick connects rather than threaded fittings, never done quick connects before.

Thanks for any help that comes my way!!!

If anyone could also give a name and part number for a fuel filter with quick connects. My 03 also has them, and all anyone can pull up is a threaded filter. Will a Ford filter for an 03 Thunderbird work on our 03 XK8's? I believe it's the same basic engine block, and there is about an $75 difference in the filter price.

Default XK8 Fuel Filter / Oil Filters

My 2000 XKR drophead uses a filter with threaded fittings. Both the Fram G3727 Fuel Filter and Fram PH5618 Oil Filter are used on a variety of vehicles and should be commonly available. Bought both at Mills Fleet Farm in US less than $10 each.

Excalibur, unfortunately, that style of filter was used up to 2002. The 2003 xk uses the costlier,snap-on type of filter. You are lucky in that regard.

Right. As soon as commonality becomes apparent do something that no one else would do.

You would think, right? In jaguar's defense, the 2003 model introduced a new fuel delivery system that utilized a variable speed pump, only one unit for both the n/a and s/c versions, so perhaps the newer desing fuel filter was a necessity for less head loss over the various fuel delivery rates while keeping the same fuel rails and injectors? I suppose they could have kept the fuel filter the same, but who knows how many other lines and components would have to be redesigned to work hydraulically?

Are they different sizes?

Its hard to say, I have the 'old' style on my 05 XJ, but the 'new' style on the 03 xk8. If they are different sizes, its not blindingly obvious.

Purolater filter F65217 fits the 03's and cost $8.99 at advance auto. I put the car up on stands, removed the left rear wheel and it was changed in about 20 minutes.

Managed to achieve this on my 2005 XK8 last night thanks to the advice here, an inspection pit and a traumatic experience with a VW Polo "quick release coupling" fuel filter a couple of years ago.

Compatible Blue Print filter available from SNG Barrat at a fraction of the Jaguar price, using the C2S20977 part no.
No problems from the heat shield but access between the rear suspension parts is less than ideal. Eventually removed the 10mm bolt securing the filter bracket to the car using socket extensions and universal joint. This allowed sufficient movement of the filter and fuel lines to gain access to release the quick release coupling, assisted by a flat blade screwdriver.

Once access secured, relatively simple and straightforward. to release the couplings, remove the old filter (with a small amount of petrol loss) insert the new one and couple up. Probably around an hour, most of which spent working out how best to squeeze hands and arms around the suspension.
