Default 2003 XK8 windscreen rear view mirror fell off-Solutions?

While driving down the road, the mirror on my 2003 XK8 windshield fell off. I have read some posts about reattaching it using various glues but there seems to be some sort of bracket on the windshield that it snaps into unlike other mirrors. the bracket is still on the windshield. It won't snap back on the bracket and stay.
Also, discovered that the automatic function for the headlights goes through the mirror wiring when I found myself driving with no lights on.
Any advice, pictures or videos are appreciated.
THanks

If the bracket is still on, it slips into position.

Okay, looking at it in the daylight, it looks like part of it got unglued and part of it is still on the glass. See pictures.
So, what has been the best adhesive for reattaching this or is it possible?
Thanks

Wow that sucks. This caught my attention because my bloody mirror and overhead console both decided to fall off last night too!

Greg, first thing I'd do is slide the piece on the windshield off, it slides downwards. The electrics connect with a connector hiding just above the windshield.

I'd use clear plastic epoxy, its a permanent connection area that will not impede mirror adjustment right? I love the Locktite brand instant epoxy- it comes with a great self mixing applicator. I can say it works on plastics but there's so many damm different types of plastic I'm reluctant to give it a blanket recommendation.

Sidebar: my favorite is when I find a plastic that works with the PVC glue plumbers use. That stuff welds the joint and drys real fast. Not sure if that helps, how could you test.

John

Greg one more thing, this may be moot without the mirror extension attached, but many stories of owners who use leverage to remove mirror cracking the windshield. Apply force in 1 direction only - downwards!!!

Well, the mirror did not last a whole month with the gorilla epoxy. It looks like the epoxy stuck to the metal ring but not the windshield. Not sure what other options there are and not sure what the dark gray part is that is part of the windshield. Maybe if I knew exactly what that was i could find something else.
Any ideas?
Thanks
