2003 XKR Brake Switch
Hey Guys,
Been having the "Check Rear Lights/Cruise Not Available" warning pop up in my 03 XKR every time I drive the car. Pops up usually 2 mins into the drive. I recall this being the brake switch and I did replace one a few years ago to resolve this issue. I actually have two extra switches, the bad one and another one that I somehow acquired, and I went to test the switches so that I could remove the faulty microswitch and hopefully replace it with a working microswitch. Anyways, I took the mulitmeter out and tested the ohms. Both microswitches on each brake switch unit seemed to function properly with one microswitch being open and creating resistance when the microswitch was clicked and one having resistance and opening when the microswitch is clicked.
My question is, has anyone ever encountered this? Why would at least one of these brake switch units have failed if the microswitches seem to test out okay? Would you recommend I carry on with trying to switch out the microswitches or should I just bite the bullet and buy another brake switch online?
Thank you in advance for any insights!
Thanks,
Corey

That is indeed a common result. Fiddling with the faulty brake pedal switch sometimes brings it back to life . . . . for awhile. When the factory brake pedal switch failed on my wife's 2006 XK8 in 2012, we replaced it with a new OEM one. When that one failed just four years later, I had an EE friend install much better-quality microswitches on the original factory brake pedal switch that I had held onto. We then installed the newly-refurbished factory one back in the car and have had no problems with it since. I did go ahead and have my EE friend install a pair of those same better-quality microswitches on the second failed OEM one so I could have it as a spare. I hope to never need it but am glad to have it just in case....
