I have been having problems with my recently acquired 98 xk8 brake pedal switch. At first I was getting the usual failsafe/cruise control issues but pretty soon my brake lights were only working periodically. I planned on replacing it but while I had it out I figured I would open it up and try to see what was wrong. I couldn't see anything noticebale and it all looked clean. What I ended up doing was resoldering every connection on the board. I reinstalled switch and everything works as it should now. Hopefully this helps someone.

Good for you mate. I too have a 98 and am sure to face thos someday. Which board (and where is it) dod you work on? Thanks

 

When you remove the brake switch from its bracket you can slide the little circuit board out of the brake switch and resolder the connections.

 

When mine went out it was the ratcheting part, it would not return to original position.

 

is this switch the same on a 03 xk8? If so can I buy one to have on the ready when mine fails down the road since it seems everyone gets this issue sooner or later.

 

97-06 uses same brake switch.
