Angry Leaking thermostat filler cap

Today I went to my hangar to get the XK8 convert read to put into action. Spring is here, I hope, time to put it on the road. When I opened the hod, bonnet, I notice red liquid int the hole at the top of the filler cap on the thermostat housing. It was antifreeze. That darn cap is made of two pieces where the leak is and fluid is leaking up into the hole at the top of the cap. This housing is still plastic. I have a metal one ready to install

Has anyone ever had that cap leak fluid into that hole. What a cheap piece of c..p.

The plastic cap is VERY prone to leaks because of being 16 years old plastic and should NEVER be removed by using a 10mm Allen wrench in the socket.

Replace it with metal on top of a metal thermostat tower.

Yeah, I agree. I paid about $20 for a new one a year or so ago. The caps do tend to fail over time and heat cycles, like most of the plastic under our Jaguars' hoods....
