2003 XK8, Torque App, Android, Bluetooth
Hi All,
The above combination only partially works for me. In particular, Coolant Temperature says "No Data". Others, like RPM, show OK. Suspect it is the (very) cheap Bluetooth ELM327 interface I have but reluctant to buy another without some assurance it will work fully.
Dashcmd app on the same Android phone and a WiFi ELM327 interface works fine so the PID is obviously available. I find the Torque app to be more user friendly so would like to use that if possible.
It seems also that Torque on Android cannot connect to WiFi interface.
I have scoured the prior threads on similar topics without finding an answer.

I tried one of the 12 dollar ones. It was pretty useless. Then I bought a BAFX elm 327 and it reports a lot more data using Torque pro. I can see coolant temp and a lot of other data. The bafx obd2 interface cost about $25.00. It works
I have the ELM327 Mini - was an $8 one and the Torque App, going to my Samsung phone and tablet, iot shows everything, I use it as a temperature sensor gauge on trips until I get the Real Gauge installed. I use it on 3 cars, all work great and neighbours are starting come over to get their error codes read. 8$ ofr ELM327 Mini and $5 dollars for the Torque app have to be the best $13 I ever spent. Hooks up via bluetooth.
I have the Torque Pro app and jsut got an ELM off ebay for like 6 bucks or so. No issues at all. i use it on 4 cars thus far with no issue. I have heard some of the ELMS out there can be cheap and not work,
I've tried 3 different (albeit cheapy) Bluetooth adaptors including the ELM mini, ELM327 and NONE of them read temp with Torque (No Data).
They did however work properly with Torque and my SAAB. So I figured the problem was with my early '97 ECU even though its been repaired by ASI.

My Torque Pro and cheap ELM knock off works fine on the XK8 and several other cars. I went through the PID's and all supported were there.
It should be noted that I have 4 of the cheap ELM devices and only one works. Obviously, the sellers understand the failure rate because I have never had a problem getting my money back through eBay.

Yes I am using Torque Pro. It does work fine with my Saab. My '97 has a build date of Nov '96 so it likely has the earliest ECU firmware. 3 of the adaptors all fail the same way with it but they all worked on the other car. I figure its just the ECU isn't outputting the data. I even bough an old Android tablet I was gonna keep in the car to use as a temp gauge. Same problem with that as with my Moto X phone. No data for temp.

Thanks to all responders. It seems that the consensus points towards the Bluetooth interface being the problem. Some work, some don't. Bit of a gamble. Looks like the BAFX suggested by dennysjag is a strong possibility. Only problem is that it costs $75 to have sent in from US to Australia. Looks like I'll stay with Dashcmd.
You might consider a HUD unit instead of a phone or tablet. I have one for my non Jag daily driver and it shows mph, rpm, v, mpg & temp on the windshield. Plugs right into the OBDII port and can be found online for around $50.
Lots of cars don't have an oil pressure sensor (other than fail/no fail, but even that is commonly not available via OBD).
For oil temp (EOT) you can check whether the car supports the PID and if so go from there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBD-II_PIDs

Opened up the ELM327 bluetooth adapter I have and see that only pins 1-5 and 9-11 are connected to the circuit board. I thought that pin 7 was required for iso9141-2 and optionally pin 15? The vendor has been unhelpful but for 7 aus dollars one can't expect much.
