Default 2006 XKR Blowing Brake Light Fuses

2006 XKR Victory ‘vert; Three years ago, I got the “check rear lights, cruise not avail” message, replaced the brake light switch as most of us have, and things have been fine until now. I just got a different message “check rear lights”, found only the third brake light working. I located a blown 5A fuse, replaced the fuse, got brake lights once, and found the fuse blown again. As the third light still works, I would think the problem is not the switch again? Any ideas on where to start tracking the cause would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Clean and burnish your brake light bulb sockets. Then check your ground for a good connection....

Check the wires for a short due to chafing.
