Default 2017 no abs-dsc-cruise FUN!

Abs + dsc + no cruise fault messages
A quick summary of recent events I’ve experienced with a 2005 xk8.
For a two month period (1,500 miles) the dsc fault was omni-present.
I accidentally set off the panic mode and upon stopping the sounder (via the remote) I no longer had a dsc fault.
800 miles have passed since the panic sounder doing its thing and no faults have shown on the dash display
Yesterday I was cruising about with the top down and decided to put the top up before I came home. I pulled off to the side of the road and did this:
Engine running
Tranny in P
Foot on brake (a habit of mine)
Push top up button and hold until the raising /latching/windows up sequence is completed
Then…Dash displays ABS + DSC + No Cruise Fault
Drive 5 miles and all faults remain
Pull off roadway, kill engine and restart
All faults remain at start up but disappear at first movement of vehicle.

Gotta enjoy this car!

Happy New Year

You may have to clean and tighten all the pos. and ground connections starting at the battery, just to eliminate the possibility of a loose or corroded connection. The ground cable at the back of the engine on the passenger side is often a problem, as are the pos. bulkhead connections in the engine compartment.

Been there, RJ is on right track, for me it was alternator- charged just enough to mask warnings , but battery got low = same messages (I sympathize-gives your heart a workout, right ?).

So I bet it is either a defective battery or alternator. Just occurred to me, raising roof + brake lights, probably added enough drain on poorly charged battery = error displays.

Good luck, keep us posted. John

Yep....had near the same issue....Cruise would not be available and DSC fault even after an 80 mile run in the car, would be OK one day then NOK the next!! Replaced the battery and never seen the faults since (2 years have now passed). TS

It cannot be stressed enough how vital an extremely strong battery is in these XK8s. The same is true for my 2005 S-Type....

Makes me think that short of cleaning every connection to reduce resistance it might be easier to add a secondary battery in parallel...or rewrite the software algorithms to continually vary trip values based on current battery state (that might be a nice winter’s job!)
just kidding, I think I'll add a real time Voltage readout to get a feel for the different draws and then clean some connections and log any changes in V.

I am still waiting for someone to tell me that their panic alarm firing off also changed the state of the fault messages. Recall…I had them all of the time and then after the horn/lights/etc fired off they never reappeared until this top up, with brake (lights) on episode. Is there just one other individual that has experienced this little bit of Jag magic? Just one?

Magic would be more forthcoming if you were to go ahead and post the codes that come up in these instances...

Separately, you might want to spend a minute and update your signature line with the details of your car. Something simple like model year, coupe vs. convertible, and possibly engine size/transmission would suffice. This typically serves as a catalyst towards getting better help, i.e. makes it easier for people to help you.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

+1

it's not very useful knowing it happened in 2017 so we have useless data but missing the needed data.
