Default 245/50R17 Pirelli P-Zero VS. all-weather tyres?

Hi all,

Having a 2003 XK8 with 17" wheels, the ride is excellent but tyre choice is...limited, to say the least.

I am running Pirelli P-Zero summer tyres, which are the only ones on the market in the 245/50R17 size, except for run-flats but I wouldn't use those due to their harsh ride characteristics.

Anyway, anyone had any experience of all-weather tyres on XK8/R (since there are a few are available on the market in this size) VS. P-Zero summer tyres?

FWIW, summer tires will likely get you stranded if there is any snow. Happened to me once, and I have always done all-season tires since. FWIW, it happened on a busy highway, at the base of an uphill, in traffic. The only cars stranded with me were sports cars with summer tires. Everybody else went on just fine. Clear enough evidence the tires were the problem...

I'm currently leaning towards the Pirelli PZero All Season Plus. High performance, quiet, decent ride comfort, and snow capable (although not best in class for snow performance). Biggest consideration for me is that although I won't drive it in the snow, the temperatures here can drop to 0C or lower on any given day of the year, even in the middle of summer, and lower temperatures are highly likely in fall and spring.

Wound up buying the BF Goodrich G-Force Comp-2 A/S tires. They look aggressive, and seem to drive a lot better than the Sumitomos I had on before. Reasonably quiet, and they don't pull as much on road anomalies.

those are what I have. Only 4,000 miles on them so far, but they are meeting expectations, which were admittedly high. I wasn't especially looking for a quiet tire, but I'd consider them quiet enough, I.e. not annoying. What I was wanting was as much traction possible without going to a racing tire.

, I'm used to the traction afforded by Avon CR6ZZ tires, which are a DOT approved (street legal) racing tire. Tremendous traction, a great upgrade for vintage 911's or vintage American or British cars using a 15" wheel. They are fairly expensive ($350+ each) so many people don't see the benefit..

the BFG COMP 2 all season are pretty close to giving me the confidence in traction or road holding abilities that the Avons were able to do, so I'm satisfied.

Z.
