Of course sellers, be it private or dealer aren't going to warn a prospective purchaser about faulty tensioners. It's not going to help them make a sale. It's like saying, hey... you might have to put 3 or 4 grand into the engine if you want it to stay running.


Stick with late 02 and forward and the problem doesn't exist. Jaguar used Steel Tensioners in the later 02 4.0 engines and in all 4.2 engines.


Ford did the same thing and used Plastic tensioners on similar year range 4.0 Lincoln LS and Explorers. That is why seasoned used car dealers won't put them on their lots in NY state because they have to warranty the grenade engine for 30 days.
