Default 5hp zf filled idle vs off question

Hi guys, yesterday a mechanic and I changed the fluid on his lift. Went well, all seems ok but I just double checked the ZF video.

Once she reaches 40 degrees c, looked like you are supposed to leave her idling after you run through the years for the final top off.

We shut her off to put the final 1 1/2 quarts in.

Is this something we should revisit ?

I suppose just driving her over will put it at 40, up on the lift, idling to check....

What do you think?

John

Pan off and filter change will require nearly 6 liters of fluid.
I fill the gear box with some fluid after I install the pan. Then start the engine and work as-fast-as-I-can to get the remaining fluid into the gearbox before it gets to 40 degrees Centigrade.

Sounds like you don't have nearly enough fluid in if you filled with engine off.

Thanks Bob, it used 4 1/2 quarts. I'm heading back to mechanic now.

Will update.

You will have to let it cool down for a while. 30-50 C is way below the operating temp.

You guys were right. She took another quart while idling. 5 1/2 quarts total.

Thanks for your input yesterday,
John
