Question 97 Xk8 convertable top switch wiring

So I was having problems with my top going up/down so I was messing with switch and I caused two problems on the rocker switch itself I broke off the button that is pressed inside the switch when operating up and down top actions. So I was wanting to know where I can buy those internal parts instead of replacing the entire $100.00 switch and after that I noticed wire from harness was pulled out and because the wires were so short I cut all five and made a pigtail for easier and better connections and I lost my notes and can't remember which colors go to which pins. It's 97 xk8 and switch is 5 pins to 5 wires blue/red --grey/red--grey/white--black--and finally black/brown. The pins are in 2 rows 1pin on top row and 4 pins on bottom looks like this. :... I think top pin gray/red then below left to right1. gray/white 2.black/brown 3. Red/blue 4. black can anyone confirm that I tried some diagrams but they are not same wire colors please help

The wiring for a 97 XK8 shows only 3 wires to the switch. Not sure why your switch has 5 wires.

+ 2 wires (B - pin 7 & RU - pin 9) for the dimmer controlled lighting.
You may have to try and identify each wire as your colours seem slightly different to the wiring diagram- could your "black & brown" be "black and pink" ??
FC62 (the switch) has a 10 way connector although only five of the pins may be "populated".
1 = Slate (grey) / Red
2
3
4
5
6 = Slate (grey) / White
7 = Black
8
9 = Red / Blue
10 = Black / Pink

I have had no reason to look at the wiring to that switch but on the diagram I only see 3 leads. I am a little confused!

Gus - that's because the lighting circuits are on a different wiring diagram - Jaguar did it on purpose just to confuse us even more !! If you look at the "dimmer controlled lighting" page, you will see the two additional wires.
Blame British logic.

The only discrepancy from the diagram is your black/brown which could have aged from black/pink. Either way, it appears to be the roof switch common.

Unfortunately, Jaguar has thrown another curved ball as the 1997 diagram carries the warning

"
† NOTE: Early production vehicles (-> VIN 003300) have connector pin numbers that differ from the volume production pin numbers shown.
Use the wire color code for pin identification on early production vehicles.
"
which may or may not apply to your car, and may or may not apply to the roof switch. No, it isn't very clear, and you can't blame Joe Lucas for this one..

Your easiest approach would be to identify the hood up and down switch connections, using a multimeter on the switch connector.
By a process of elimination, the remaining pair must be the feed and ground for the internal switch bulb. As these bulbs aren't LED then the polarity isn't strictly important.
