Default 97 XK8 Neutral Safety Switch

Hi, I am new to this site. I am looking to replace the neutral safety switch on my 97 xk8 coupe. I have the shifter and center console removed. However Im not sure exactly where the neutral safety switch is located. Do i need to go under the car to the trans or is it somewhere else ? The car only starts in neutral and goes in Gear shift fault when put into drive. Kind of new to this.. Any Help Please Thanks!!!

Hi and welcome. I see you are in NJ too. Do you have the shifter's surround off? The switches are below the J gate (says P, R D, 3 2 1) . The position of the shifter activates the switches.

The neutral saftey switch is located externally on the right side of the transmission.

Two bolts to remove, I think 10mm. The harness plugs in on top of bellhousing.

Default Neutral Safety Switch

On the 1998 Jaguar XK8, is the neutral safety switch normally replaced as part of the replacement of the transmission. In other words, If I am quoted a price for transmission replacement does the price include a new neutral safety switch in the job?

Im haveing the same issue. I located the switch but i cant seem to find where its pluged into. The wire goes to the top of the trany and feels like its straped or bolted to the top of the trany. Cant find where its pluged into to remove the switch. any help with a pic would be great.
