97 XK8 - sideways...
Had the ABS ECU replaced with a new one a few weeks ago after intermittant Stabilty control/traction control fail finally became total failure (no speedometer reading and red brake warning error).
A couple of times after that the stabilty control/traction control message came up but cleared after a restart. Mechanic checked the fault codes and it had logged right front wheel sensor fault. Swapped the left/right sensors over and the error hasn't re-occured - but I've been noticing wierdness around right hand corners from a standing start - seemed like it was always in the wrong gear or changing into second almost immediately (we drive on the left side of the road down here BTW).
On Tuesday, in light rain, I ended up completely sideways going around a right turn at about 30 km/hr (been round that corner hundreds of times in the last 6 years in worse weather, with and without traction control). I overcorrected and ended up popping the left front tire against the kerb (lucky there were no other vehicles or pedestrians in the way).
Mechanic is going to swap in a new sensor tomorrow while checking the wheel alignment (I hit the kerb pretty hard).
Does wheel sensor mis-information sound like a feasible excuse for being sideways? Maybe there was some oil on the road. I've had the Jag for 6 years and I've never felt like it was trying to kill me before but it has been acting a bit weird lately :/

I realise this isn't an option if your rears are larger than the fronts but after watching this I always put the new tyres on the rear.
