Do you *just* lose tacho, or speedo and engine temp as well plus an assortment of warning lights ? If so, it may be a CAN issue (the network that connects various modules and allows them to talk to each other). If not, then maybe a loose connection within the instrument module ?
The CAN runs through the gear select ("J Gate") module which is why the release solenoid is involved.
