Default 98 XK8 ABS pump motor rebuild

Hi. I love this forum. You guys have saved me on my Jaguar adventure so far. I have a 98 XK8 that I have been bringing back to life. I have already replaced 95 percent of the steering mechanical parts and it is working well. All from advice gotten here. Thanks for that. Now I have an ABS, Traction and Stability control fault situation on the instrument panel read out. I cleaned all four sensors and still get the faults. I tried to read the codes but got the P1000 code which means it is in the fault code diagnostics cycle. This was due to the battery being unhooked while fixing some other things. So I am waiting for that to clear so I can get the ABS fault codes. Mean while I read multiple threads on the subject and thought it be a good idea to do an ohms test on the abs pump motor. I did and believe that it has a level of resistance much higher than normal. I have access to 97 XK8 donor car and it's pump reads about 4 ohms. My 98 XK8 pump is reading around 100 times that. So I think the pump motor is bad.

So my question to the forum experts on this subject is: Can I pull just the pump motor off the valve assembly without losing brake fluid. I would like to replace just the motor from the donor car because my 98 has traction control and the other does not. Any help here is greatly appreciated. You guys are great. Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Jeff

I believe the part numbers are different for pumps with or without traction control.

You will be able to remove the motor, but getting it back in will be very problematic unless you remove the tension on the pump plungers. If you look on the left and right side of the housing, inline with the center of the motor you will see a T45 bolt on each side. These need to be removed to release the spring pressure on the plungers. This will also let air in the system unfortunately, so you will likely need to bleed the system afterwards. Turn the ignition on and off repeatedly during the bleeding process to cycle fluid through the pump.

Curious as to what happened here. Can you tell us if you did replace the motor?

I have a 97 that was brought to me with abs traction control warnings in the screen and a code for the abs pump.
The module is unopened.

The wires from the motor to the plug have lost all insulation and I am afraid they probably shorted out.

The label on the motor has no visible numbering left.

Question. Are all the motors the same and can they be switched out?

I have a pump from a 98 available.
Both abs pumps do have the same module number.
Both are 5 line units. Damaged one from a 97 the other from a 98, the 98 module has been opened and resealed.

Not a pretty sight. <br/>Surprisingly fuse #16, #18 and #04 on left engine compartment are not blown.

My wires have also lost all insulation. Were you able to remove the wire from the harness connection and the motor connection? Thank you
