Default 99 xk8

Hi All, new to the site. Recent purchase of a 99 XK8 Conv, 50k orig miles. Reading a bit of the plus and minus, quirks, if you will. Before I touched the conv top down button, i took a few panels apart. Found a bit of oil here and there. Seems the pistons are weaping a bit. I also figured out how to lower the top manually. Would this action by itself chuck me out of the club. Cannot help but thinking of an old MG rag top, how classic.

No, but it may encourage you to fix it!

Plenty of advice on top issues in the "Convertible Top Latch Hydraulic Leaks" section of the FAQ's at the top of the threads.
