TexGator, Lets eliminate the easy stuff first:
When it arms do you hear the normal beep or the "other" beep that warns of leaving a door open or something? I assume its normal but just want to be sure.
Does the same thing happen when arming with the key?
Might you have a battery which is old or low? (car battery, not FOB)
You have a bone dry spare tire wheel well right? (my memory says the security module is back there, folks in recent storms have had faults surface with H2O leakage into there)

I hear the normal beep (like when you engage the alarm/lock the car with the key, a small "chirp"), this is followed up quickly with the horn honking and the lights flashing.
I can lock the car and set the alarm with the key no problem, I just replaced the car battery 2 weeks ago, and my spare tire well is as you say "Bone Dry", and always is since the car is kept in the garage.

Texgator, so she works properly with key arming through drivers door, but fob causes false alarms.
Leads me to suspect key fob. I forget the sequence for one to set alarm off via key fob. I wonder if its sending that sequence somehow when you push arm button.
Let's see what others think.
In the meantime, it shouldn't fix it but what the heck - it is easy to open the fob and clean the contact's surface. Give it a shot?

The US security system differs from the European system not just in the frequency used (315mhz in the US; 433mhz in Europe) but also in specification. However, previous discussions on the topic suggest sticking or worn fob buttons are a common cause of issues with both specifications.
The 1999MY US Security System Handbook mentions a faulty Tilt Sensor can trigger the alarm with a delay after arming but this sensor was also an option and not fitted to all vehicles.
