Default ABS Code B1676 Battery Voltage out of range

Ever since I have had my 98 XK8, the stability control fail and ABS light remain on constantly, I have never seen them off. I managed to trace down two of the "C" codes associated with both front wheel speed sensors showing a fault. I replaced sensors, and cleared codes with AutoEnginuity. I can now do a quick driving test (maybe I should do a longer one to see if data drops off) and see all 4 sensors picking up wheel speed data that appears correct. But, I cannot clear the following code: B1676 Battery Voltage Out Of Range. This appears under the Anti-Lock Brake component section on my scan results. I sent the ABS module out for rebuild, but when I reinstalled, it still shows the B1676 code that I believe is causing the stability control fail. I assume that there is a short somewhere, likely in the module, but used units are expensive and may suffer from the same problem. Any idea what the part # is for the ABS module for a 1998 XK8, mine is washed out and I would like to search for the module.

Any tips? Sure would be nice to have one more code cleared, then I am almost homefree (just have to install steering column reach cable).

Thank you.

I would got to the FAQ sections and find the Electrical Guide for your car. Then check the ABS Module connector for battery power and a good ground at the appropriate pins. One or the other is probably missing and setting the B1676 code. An improper or failed Alternator can do that and even a battery can cause the code. You might substitute the battery and see if it goes away.

Good luck!

Default Problem solved

After further investigation, I found the source of this battery out of voltage error code and "Stability Control Fail." It turns out that somehow the two wires near the ABS controller must have shorted out, so the metal wires were actually touching. I cleaned the wires, resealed them, and started the car up, the ABS voltage error was all fixed, no more code. I didn't even have to clear the code.

I have driven about 3,000 miles since this repair, with no issues or codes. Here are pictures of the exposed wires that were the culprit.

The simple ones feel the best when you track them down.

Thanks ever so for reporting back with the correction. We can never over stress, powers and grounds, powers and grounds.

Mighty glad the issue could be taken care of without major expense. We like simple!!

Keep on JagIN!
