Default ABS/DSC Fault Codes

I have just started having the ABS and DSC warning lights talking to me on my 03 XK8. I have seen Sam's post on cleaning the wheel speed sensors and will try that as soon as I get over my cold.
In the mean time I hooked up my cheap OBD2 reader and got nothing!! The JTIS lists a whole bunch of codes related to the ABS system starting with C1093. The most likely ones for a dirty sensor would be C1145, C1155, etc. Is there a problem that the cheap ( about $40) code reader cannot pick up the Jaguar specific codes??

Yup. There are about a half dozen protocols in the automotive computer world. Add in the fact that codes 0-999 are generic (read: required by law and mostly engine and transmission related - emissions type stuff) and codes above 1000 are manufacturer specific. Some 1xxx codes are near duplicates of xxx codes but with more detail.

A scanner that would access your ABS codes would probably begin in the near $300 neighborhood.

Just a reminder, if you get a fault message before the car starts moving, that's not dirty sensors but one of the other recurring problems with these touchy systems.
