Default ABS, traction, stability trivia

I bought my 97 XK8 last spring and it always showed ABS, traction control, stability control error. I was planning on going over the fixes some day but was in no real hurry. I noticed that as the, Michigan, outside temperature began to fall into the 30's that the errors started going away. Warmer days the errors came back. Colder days the errors weren't there. Interesting. Any ideas?

No ideas, other than to do the speed sensor cleaning and ABS Module solder fixes. At least you'll have ruled those two out.

It could also be an internal break of one of the cables. The only way to be sure is get the codes read, hopefully at an independent shop and not a dealer. But ask for the codes and list them here for identification.

IMO it is the solder connection on the circuit board where the plug attaches. Like many mine had a hair line separation. Took it apart, soldered it, has not returned.

when it gets cold the board shrinks a little in size making the loose contact in the module a better connection as the compartment warms and the board expands or warmer weather the board expands and the connection looses contact mine did the same thing .

so it sounds like going the ABS module re-solder is the way to go.

have to be very careful splitting the case for the money involved id use the place in ca. they send you an abs module you swap yours out for it and send yours back if it can be rebuilt they refund the core charge. its very touchy to do the resolder your self . place i used is called module repair pro on ebay .

The most difficult parts of the fix were 1. moving the brake lines out of the way-had to disconnect all, and 2. sawing the edges of the module to get through the adhesive. I don't think much air got into the lines when disconnected, as fluid was at the top of each circuit, and minimal fluid came out of the lines. Be sure to quickly reattach them when you get the module out. To saw through the adhesive holding the module together, I used a small hand saw. After I soldered the contacts and reassembled everything, the messages went away immediately. They then reappeared a few days later. They still come and go. I was told it could take up to several hundred miles before the messages are permanently gone.

If you have access to a drill press, boring a hole in the case opposite the pins is less risky and neater. But don't use a pilot drill.

in my case they never went away after 2 months as for the lines you can wiggle and bend them out ot the way just use gentle pressure and a long extension as a pry bar to slide the lines enough to wiggle out the module .disconnect the module first as when you start moving the lines you will block the point where it disconnects at .
