Another idea in the pot,

My car is a 98 that did not have factory GPS and I was considering buying the trim plate for GPS from a newer car and installing my Garmin 1450 5" screen unit. The problem I see with this idea, is removing the clock and gauges that are there now.

In cars with the factory system, it shows them on the screen and you can switch to see them, With the Garmin I would not have that option.

I have seen two single din 7" touch screen radios that would work in older cars like mine. They may also be an option for other 96 to 2000 cars as well.

One made by a company call "PYLE" has a normal looking radio face showing the stations etc. until you need the GPS or DVD and then you can open the 7" touch screen. I like that system because it looks like a normal radio, doesn't block the heater controls and the 7" screen is not hanging out when you only want the radio or cd player.

The factory nav. only has a clock, not the other gauges.

The gauges are a classic look, I would keep them. I actually have had 30 customers go from nav. to gauges!

Go with the aftermarket radio with a screen if you want the nav.
