I am considering buying an 03 XK8 that has air suspension. Most air suspension kits are good for about 5 years and then they become money pits. What is the story on Jaguars? Also, is there a standard shock conversion kit available?

I tried searching for 'CATS' and 'air suspension' and not much came up.

 

This is the first I've ever heard of an XK8 fitted with air suspension- I don't know of any kits for it. So you would need to find out what aftermarket parts were used for the conversion and look into the reliability of those components. I personally would just go back to the stock suspension; I fail to see the benefits of it for this car.

My Land Rover LR3 has it from the factory, and the additional ground clearance it provides is handy, but it's been somewhat expensive to maintain.

CATS aren't air suspension.

 

The Op has a XK8 so he has neither CATS or Air (not a factory option). A New set of XK8 shocks will run you little over $100 ea and well worth it on a '97

 

The OP is asking about a different car, not the 1997 he owns.
