I need to replace the airbags after an accident. I have bought them second hand and a controller. A XKR driverside airbag was delivered iso an XK8 airbag and a controller dating 1997. I have always been under the impression that both airbags and controller needs to be kept togheter. So will I be able to have them working together?
The shock sensors (who set of the airbags incase) are they reusable or do I also need to change them?

The SRS (Supplementary Restraint System) varies considerably across the Model Years from 1996 to 2005.

Getting the wrong advice on anything to do with Airbags could be very dangerous.

According to the Parts Catalogue, the 2 Airbag Sensors on the front of the car and the Airbag Control Module are the same on both 1997 and 2001 Model Years:

After this, it gets complicated if your vehicle has the later passenger occupancy sensing fitted!

There's several different Driver's Airbags listed for normally aspirated and supercharged engines and then for each depending on no speed control / standard speed control / adaptive speed control.

A further difference exists between the fundamental design of the 1997 Driver's Airbag and the 2001 Airbag. The early type is a single stage controlled through the ECU (Engine Control Unit); the later one is a twin stage inflator, each of these stages being independently activated by the RCM (Restraint Control Module).

It appears essential to get the correct Driver's Airbag to match the SRS (Supplementary Restraint System) of the vehicle. Early and late types may look the same but they are controlled and operate in completely different ways.
