Good afternoon everyone. I have a 99 xk8 that i finally got around to putting a motor in after 3 years. I have it running but i cant find the power wire to the alternator. Is it a seperate harness? I have the plug for the alternator but not the wire for the power lug. Its been a long time and i just dont remember. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to SNG Barratt's web site and download the XK8 parts catalog.

It's not a great diagram, but the power wire to the alternator is a large cable (#1 in the figure on page 27). The wire has a black hoodie that snaps over the ring around the bolt to insulate it since it is 12V Hot. If your alternator has a suppressor, it also has a loop that bolts onto the power lug.

 

Did all the xk8s have a supressor? I dont remember removing one. Thanks for the reply

 

No. Only early cars have the suppressor.

If you have a suppressor, its mounted to a bracket on the frame under the air filter box.

 

Didnt see one. The wiring diagram shows a power wire from the starter to the alternator so i built one and installed it and it charges like a champ now
