Default Annoying Dash Squeak

I have this annoying unidentified squeak in the interior that occurs while driving at any speed as long as the car is moving over anything less than smooth asphalt. It sounds like a creaky door hinge or like a cricket that loves ***** cats.

I've only had it for about a week and it is driving me to the loony bin.

Here's a video where it can be heard.

Does anyone have any idea where it could be coming from?

Could be the defroster vents. Does it come from the front of the dash, right by the windshield? That is a very common problem. Do some searching, there are various approaches as to how to fix it.

It sounds like something I had. Stuff a phone or cloth or shirt on either of the window defrost vents located at the front of the dash/window interface. If that reveals the source. I put a tab of black felt under the vent.

No, that's not it. I already took care of that and the High-pitched squeak is still there.

Is the squeaking still there if the climate control system is turned OFF?

Yes, very much so it is still present with the A/C turned off. I also tried putting a phone and an iPad over the defroster vents at the end and that did not mute it at all.

Geez that would drive me nuts!! I hate any clicks or rattles in the car and these are always tough to find. I've had cars where rattles inside that sounded like they were coming from the front were actually from the rear, and vice versa.

Let us know if you figure this one out. Could it be the seat or the steering wheel or maybe even the glovebox?

I had those replaced last summer. I am positive the sound is coming from the interior. When I rolled down my windows, there was no difference in the sound.

I don't know if it could be the seat, the steering wheel or the glove box. It sounds like its coming from inside the dash.

Check the 3 Dash Top mounting bolts, 2 under the Speaker Grilles and one at the Center.

Can the grill speakers be pulled out with a flat heat screwdriver?

I agree with Addicted2Boost that this is a suspension squeak. When this exact same noise happened to my XKR100, my wife and I were on our way to a club function. We both thought it was a dash noise. After about thirty minutes of that noise ,you are ready to use Uber. Anyway,to find out one way or the other, just bounce the front end on each side and see if you hear anything. I replaced one side shock mount and the noise went away. The other side started squeaking within three weeks.

Sounds more like suspension to me too. However, when it gets cold (50F or less) my driver's side seat back makes the same noise.

Try taking your weight off the back of the seat while driving and see if it stops or changes. You never know.

I bounced all four corners of the car with as much strength as I could muster and no squeaks were produced. I did have nearly all of the front suspension rebuilt last year so I'm pretty sure that that's not the source of the squeak.

I did as Paul suggested and checked the dash screws. The center screw was a quarter of a turn loose. I tightened it up but I haven't gone for a ride to check if that stops the noise.

Jag#4 I'll check that as well.

Well, you can rule out any visible dash pieces by pressing on them while driving. If it is not a visible piece you'll have to start taking parts of the dash to find it. Search for Sam1174 on YouTube as he has good videos on dash disassembly.

I am forced to rule out the visible dash parts. I tightened the bolts but still got the squeak.

I have the same noise but mines more intense. I'm thinking it might be the upper control arm bushings because I haven't replace those as I have with the other bushings. It really is annoying going over the slightest bump..

I don't think so. I'v already and replaced my upper and lower control arm bushings. By the way, those make more of a clunk sound when they go bad.

How about the cowl brace rods that come from the top of the strut mount to the cowl?
