Default Another Purpose for a Jag XKR

This is kind of a funny story. Last Tuesday, we had a severe thunderstorm roll through the area. It knocked out power in the area where I work. My office building houses the main data center for my company. Usually, when commercial power is out, we fail over to two onsite industrial-sized backup generators.

After several minutes, without commercial power, we discovered our server room was heating up fast. The air conditioning units were not getting power. It turns out that one of our backup generators wasn’t running. We called in the electrical contractor who discovered the generator had a dead battery and wasn’t cranking to start. He suggested jumping the battery. We found two sets of jumper cables and strung them together to reach from a car to the generator. The first car we tried didn’t have enough power to get it started. We then tried the electrical contractor’s van; still not enough power.

Knowing that the Jag has an enormous battery, I backed it up next to the generator to give it a try. Success! The generator started; electricity started flowing; the air conditioners kicked in and the data center cooled down to normal temperatures; saving the day!

The next day, a guy from our network operations team submitted an formal request as follows:

“The attached quote is for equipment to start the generators supporting the production data center in the event of a damaged or inoperative battery. For scheduling and high availability reasons, this equipment should be issued to each of the 10 data center employees. $103,650 each. Total $1,036,500”

The equipment? A 2011 Jaguar XK 75th Anniversary Limited Edition.

The CFO got a kick out of the request, but no such equipment is being procured!

I would not imagine such a purpose for a Jag but that's really cool

Sounds about right, I've jumped cars with my 97 XK8 and even pulled a stuck forklift out, 4,000lb lift, 4,000 lb jag, no problem. I didn't even know it was there. It is truly an all purpose vehicle
