I was thinking about getting "HIS JAG" and "HER JAG" (they were actually both available) but my wife vetoed it. She probably would have gone for it if I put "HER JAG" on the XK8.

 

I have "M'Lords" on my E-type, and "4 M'Lady" on her XK8.

To most people though, it looks like a standard plate and I think maybe two people have ever noticed it.

True enough, but I live in Washington.. and ***** run my state. If I was to remove the front plate I would be hung by my heals like Benito mussolini..

I too live here in Seattle and have never run a front plate on my XKR, and never had a problem with the law.

My son-in law had the front plate torn off his Mercedes at the carwash about 6 months ago and before he got it back on, he got a ticket while the car was parked in downtown Seattle. Methinks the MeterMaids are working a little "revenue enhancement" for the Mayor. Cost him like $65. Thats when I finally caved in. Doesn't look tooooo bad if you drop it down.

 

I must admit, my car has gone only 14k since new, it's not on the road alot.

I saw a neat one on a big truck pulling a boat a while back. It took me a while, but I finally got it. It said O2BNCH20. (Yes, we're allowed 8 digits on the plates here in NC.)

At least, that's what I think it meant. the "NC" in the middle was messing me up because it was a North Carolina plate. I thought the NC had to have something to do with my state.

 

At the DMV when I registered the Jag I tried to get +!4$ 40

I was going to mount the plate upside down. Unfortunately it was unavailable.

 

Just ordered mine the other day. Not here yet, but will be fun to have.

'BLWN XJR' or Blown XJR

You could always use 'BLWN XKR' or my first choice which was already taken 'BLOWN 99'.

 

I'm in CT, and am currently running without a front plate. However I had been looking for a 'clean' installation to mount it low - yours looks pretty good. Did you drill the nose cone, or is it somehow clipped on the edge?

Hi Steve. What I did was go the local "Pull-a-Part" and scrounge around for plate holders that looked like they might work. What I ended up with is a combination of two pieces. The front is just one of those universal plate holders you can get at any auto parts store. The bottom is a piece that is essentially "L" shaped. It has a broad, flat area that is the bottom, and a shorter leg that goes up where I attached the front piece. It does have some strengthening at the elbow as this is the way it was used on the original car. To attach the bottom I drilled two holes way back near the back edge of the "nose cone" and used like #8 stainless machine screws and fender washers. If I ever remove it, these holes will not be visible. I then put a strip of rubber along the back of the front piece where it rests against the bumper and used a tie-wrap around the center bar of the lower grill opening to snug it up. Its been on for about 6 months now and is working fine. One thing you'll find out though is that you need to be more careful pulling up to parking curbs and going in and out of slanted driveways. You have essentially stuck the low point of the bumper forward by about 8 inches.
