Default Any way to program a remote yourself?

Any way to program a keyless entry remote yourself? Some cars have a procedure that allows it. I have an 02 XKR 100.

Thanks

All correct but for the 5 beep thing. Once is enough. Also remove key from ignition after programming to test.

Default Thanks...

one more question...

I have one transmitter that works and one new one. Will I have to program both or just the new one?

Thanks again!

Both at the same time. When you get to the pushing button on the remote, push onethen the other.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I just purchased a beautiful '01 XJ8 VDP which did not come with a remote. I bought one off Ebay and have followed all the programing methods suggested in this forum but still it won't work. On the 4Xheadlight flashing method, the alarm chimes on the 4th headlight flash and then chimes twice after about 5 seconds. The alarm system works fine with the key as do all the other electronic devices involved with the fob. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

How did you determine the part number of the correct remote? There were at least 2 in '01.

I didn't, the company I bought it from said it would work on my model/year. The number on the back is XR83 15K601-AA. If it is the wrong one, I hope they will swap it out, otherwise that's $30. down the tubes. Thanks for your input.

My suggestion is that you contact a Jaguar dealer and ask for the correct part number based on your VIN.

They are not interchangeable.

Test Point, I took your suggestion and visited my Jag dealer and found out a few things.......none of the numbers on the back of the transponders are Jaguar part numbers so he couldn't tell me anything about the one they sent me. He did, however, give me the Jaguar part # for the correct one for my VIN #. I emailed this information to the company I bought mine from and they agreed to try and find me the correct one. Seems there are several for year '01 xj8. Thanks for your input and will keep the Forum updated.

Problem not resolved yet......the company agreed to refund my money so I returned it to them. In the meantime, I have written the previous owner of the car asking him to send the remote to me if he still has it. Before I purchase another after-maarket one, I,ll wait for his reply. Locking/unlocking the car with the key is not so bad anyway. When I have more news, I'll let you guys know. Thanks for listening.

Discount Remotes got me the correct transmiitter for my VIN #, I programmed it according to the instructions in this Forum and it works fine. I got the part # from the parts man at the local Jag dealer, and that # appears on the transmitter.
I couldn't have programmed it without the proceedure instructions from you guys and I greatly apprecite your help.

Do you have more than one remote? If so, try the other remote. I've disconnected my battery numerous times and I've never had to reprogram a remote.

If you just have one remote, try changing the battery in the remote. It might just be a weird coincidence that the car batt and the remote batt died at the same time. I'm not quite sure if changing the battery requires the remote to be reprogrammed. Just follow the procedure above if the remote doesn't work after you've changed the battery. My car came with no remotes. I bought two on eBay for $25 or so, and the procedure above worked perfectly for me. In fact, I think that's how I found this forum.

thanks ive figured it out the stupid remote had been in my pocket for so long it got squished and the battery wasnt making contact with the terminals so a lil bending and it worked. now will a remote from a 97 xk8 work on my 02 xkr or are they different, and if they are different what do i look for in a replacement

FYI, I bought two 4-button remotes on ebay for 25.00 a piece, shipped. My original remotes are LJE2610-AB and the new ones are XR83-15K601-AA. I paired them all with the car using the high-beam method described above. They work like a charm!
