for our beloved XK8/R cars. I have an idea how to do it...

It might be like inventing the Dyson...

Would anybody be interested in this?

I don't think it would be that difficult to make this work for any year XKR - up through 2006 of course.

I will put my idea down on paper, maybe use vizio or something...When I get it down on paper we'll form a consortium...

It will involve losing some storage in the trunk...how do you feel about that?

I suppose how much trunk space we lose, as I have to at least be able to get a set of golf clubs in it.

I have alot installed in it too...are we talking relocation here of the electronics?

Either way, lets see what you get down on paper first, then we'll see what kind of sacrificing we need to do.

Not if you keep the designs and get a patent.

What am I missing here???
I cant find a picture, or even a description of this proposed cover; yet everyone is saying they are behind the project. Is there a link somewhere I missed?? gordo

They are saying they are interested becauseANYTHING would look better than the vinyl tonneau cover. I would LOVE to see an automatic tonneau on my XKR!!!

RE: What am I missing here???
Only way to make it feasible as far as the top design goes is to have it recess further into the trunk. This may not be possible due to the location of the fuel tank

RE: What am I missing here???
I haven't yet drawn it all out, but the idea I had would use some of the existing trunk space. The cover itself would be in 3 parts, and as it deployed (comes up from the trunk space) it would cover the top in a similar fashion to the way the vinyl cover fits over the top. The cover would be a combination of hard plastic and vinyl. Additionally, the trunk mounts would need to be modified to allow the trunk lid near the top to rise a few inches.

I see the mechanics of the process as separate from the mechanics of the top itself. The cover would have its own mechaincal system independant of the top.

Anyway, I don't mean to string anyone out, but even if it is mechanically feasible, it won't be on store shelves next month...there would be much development involved to work out the kinks.
