Thumbs down Anybody know what this is (was)?

After working on my 98 I found this on the garage floor. Initially I thought is was from one of the subframe mounts, but that doesn't appear to be the case. It obviously hasn't been functional for a while. It is so brittle it just falls apart (as most rubber does here in Arizona). I suspect it was lodged in one of those hard to reach areas, and just fell out when I backed it off the ramps.

It is 1 ⅞" accross with a 1 ¼" hole. It is about ¾" deep. It appears to have been a seal of some sort.

Fortunately, for the first time since I bought the car almost five months ago, nothing is leaking. Maybe I should leave good enough alone, but I am curious.

???????????

OK, all fun aside (and that is funny BTW), from the last photo it looks like it has been exposed to abuse from sand and gravel.

It might be some kind of protective cover rather than a seal. I was going to suggest looking for a twin underneath but it has probably perished and fallen away as well.

Just a guess but looking at the diameter could it be a seal from the drive shafts or suspension struts?

Are you sure it is from the car ?

Do you have/use anything in the garage with rubber casters/small wheels ?

As Faultless make a large selection of casters/caster tyres

Default Thanks Stumpy

Hadn't thought about it being from something else. I was using a creeper. When I get home I will check on a missing wheel.

Smile Mystery Solved

First an apology to my girl for suspecting she could be suffering from DPS (Disintegrating Parts Syndrome). I never suspected, it was actually Craftsman. I hope she accepts my apology and doesn't start another round of leaks.

Second, a thank you for all who participated. Without your help I would NEVER have checked my creeper wheels.

Unlike Jaguar parts, it appears Faultless casters aren't faultless in the land of drying rubber. Looks like one just got brittle and threw a tread. Probably looking at five more in the future. Fortunately, nothing high speed happens on my creeper.

Just don't ask us where your missing socks went because that will always be one of the mysteries of life.

Just how fast do you have to slide under the car to blow out a creeper wheel?

And I wonder if retreads are available?

Thanks for not suggesting a diet.

Don't know about retreads but six new casters are cheaper than any Jaguar seal would have been, and much easier to replace.

The lost socks, that is another issue.
